Renewal reminders that actually recover customers

A customer whose subscription lapses did not usually decide to leave. They forgot, the app went dark, and by the time they noticed they had found someone else. The reminder is the cheapest revenue in the business, and most resellers send it by hand, late, or not at all.

Why renewals are lost

A typical customer pays $39–59 for twelve months and then does not think about it again. Twelve months later the app stops. If the app carries a generic name, they search for that name and find a different reseller. If it carries yours, they look for you - but only if they still have your number, and only if they notice before they get annoyed.

The fix is not persuasion. It is timing: reach them before the expiry date, in a channel they actually read, with a message that tells them what to do.

When to send

  • Seven days before expiry: the main reminder. Enough time to pay, not so early it is ignored.
  • One day before: the short nudge. Half the renewals come from this one.
  • On expiry: what happened and how to fix it. This is the message that turns "the app is broken" into "oh, it ran out".
  • Three days after: last call, and the last one. More than four messages reads as nagging and stops working.

A platform that sends these on a schedule - iBoMate's panel does, from the expiry date on each device - removes the part where you remember. That is the whole point: the reminder system should not be you.

What to say

Name the service by your brand, say the date, say the price, say how to pay, and say what happens if they do not. One screen, no links they have to trust. "Your YourBrand subscription ends on Friday. 12 months is $49 - reply here or pay at the usual number and it stays on. After Friday the channels stop."

Put the same notice inside the app. A message the customer sees when they turn the TV on reaches people who never open WhatsApp, and it reaches them at the moment they care.

Which channel

The one the customer used to sign up. A note on the customer record - the phone number, the Telegram handle, the Messenger page - is what makes a reminder deliverable a year later, so collect it at the start and keep it on the record, not in a chat you will scroll past. iBoMate reads the contact out of each customer's note and puts a Chat button on the row, so the reminder and the conversation are one tap apart.

The arithmetic

One missed renewal is up to $59 gone. The platform that sends the reminders costs $9.99 a month for every 100 active customers. Recovering a couple of renewals a year covers it; everything after that is margin you were already earning and simply stopped losing. On a list of a hundred customers, a reminder that lifts renewals by ten points is around $500 a year for a message that sends itself.
